Herbert Honsowitz (born July 7, 1944 in Marienbad , Sudetenland ) is a German diplomat and ambassador a. D.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1966, he began to study history, German and sociology of culture (1966 to 1973), then the preparatory service for the senior foreign service (1974 to 1976). In 1975 he received his doctorate in philosophy, and worked in the Foreign Office from 1976 to 1978. From 1978 to 1980, Honsowitz was head of the press department at the embassy in Tehran , but moved to the Tel Aviv embassy in 1980 . From 1983 to 1986 he worked for the permanent representation in New York, and in 1986 he moved back to the Foreign Office in Bonn. Herbert Honsowitz began working for the United Nations in 1989 as head of the UN Information Center, which he held until 1992. In the years 1992 to 1999 he again moved to the Foreign Office; was head of unit there. From 1999 to 2002 he was head of the Addis Ababa embassy, ​​and from 2002 to 2006 head of the permanent representation at the United Nations office in Vienna . Herbert Honsowitz was then head of the embassy in Tehran until his retirement in 2009.

In September 2008, Honsowitz was ordered to report in Bonn after the military attaché from the German embassy took part in a parade promoting the destruction of Israel.
