Herbert J. McGlinchey

Herbert Joseph McGlinchey (born November 7, 1904 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , †  June 25, 1992 in Galloway , New Jersey ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1947 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Herbert McGlinchey worked as a craft salesman. From 1935 to 1937 he was the head of the Department of Labor and Industry for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ( Supervisor Labor and Industry for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ). He also worked as a private businessman. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In June 1936 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, on which President Franklin D. Roosevelt was nominated for re-election.

In the 1944 congressional election , McGlinchey was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Francis J. Myers on January 3, 1945 . Since he was not confirmed in 1946, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1947 . During this time the Second World War ended .

In 1948 and 1956, Herbert McGlinchey applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress. From 1957 to 1963 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Tax Equalization Board ; from 1964 to 1972 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . He also worked as a consultant. He died in Galloway on June 25, 1992.
