Herbert Ketscher

Herbert Ketscher (born June 25, 1903 in Debschwitz ; † August 1962 ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( KPD / SED ). From 1950 to 1952 he was state chairman of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) in Saxony-Anhalt .

Life

Ketscher, son of a miller, completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter after primary school and then worked in the profession. In 1919 he joined the Socialist Workers' Youth and in 1921 the Social Democratic Party of Germany . In 1923 he became a member of the Communist Youth Association of Germany , a year later of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). At times he was an employee of the KPD district leadership in Thuringia and head of the League against Fascism in Thuringia.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, Ketscher emigrated to Switzerland in 1933 . In 1934 he was expelled and had to return to Germany. Between 1934 and 1943 he worked in Merseburg and Leuna or was an employee of the Wesseling fuel works near Cologne .

From 1945 to 1950 Ketscher acted as head of organization or secretary of the FDGB state board of Thuringia and from March 1947 was a member of the executive FDGB state board there. From 1946 he was a member of the SED. From June 1950 to January 1952 (initially provisional until September 1950) he was first chairman of the FDGB state executive committee for Saxony-Anhalt. From 1946 to June 1955 he was a member of the FDGB federal executive board. Between 1950 and 1953 he completed a distance learning course at the party college . In 1952/53 he was head of organization in the FDGB federal executive board, then deputy head of discharge there.

From 1950 to 1952 he was a member of the FDGB parliamentary group in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt , where he was one of three vice-presidents of the state parliament.
