Herbert Langhans

Herbert Langhans (born May 7,  1920 in Nixdorf ; † January 14,  2015 ) was a German music and dance teacher and university teacher .

Life

Born in Bohemia , Langhans passed his Abitur in Rumburg in 1939 , then studied  school music and German in Prague  and Hamburg . After completing his studies in 1952, he worked as a grammar school teacher in Hamburg in 1953 and then moved to the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS), where from 1953 he was responsible for the field of musical education and was head of the Institute for Music and Dance Education until 1986. In addition, he took on teaching positions at the Rheinische Musikschule and at the Conservatory of the City of Cologne and from 1959 worked for the Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) in school radio and in the context of singing events. He also directed the choir of the German Sport University.

At the DSHS, Langhans' main research areas were music and movement education, movement theater and play-music-dance (he founded this subject together with Anneliese Schmolke  at the sports university). During his teaching at the sports university he was active in events for rhythm, drum technique, singing and singing. In an obituary in the university newspaper of the German Sport University Cologne, Langhans was referred to as a "musical gardener".
