Herbert Suess

Herbert Suess (born October 3, 1939 ) is a German bank manager. From 2005 to 2007 he was CEO of Sachsen LB .

Süß began his professional training in 1955 in a branch of the Dresdner Bank in Mannheim . In 1962 he switched to the Bank für Gemeinwirtschaft (BfG) in Sindelfingen as branch manager , where he was promoted to director. From the mid-1970s, he spent ten years in Asia. On behalf of the German government, he accompanied the establishment of the Buruh Malaysia bank in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur from 1976 to 1978 . He then took over the Hong Kong branch of BfG as director and became Managing Director of BfG Finance Asia Ltd.

In 1986 he returned to Germany and became branch manager of the BfG in Bonn . In 1991 he moved to the Stadtsparkasse Dresden as chairman of the board , which was merged with the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden in 2004 .

At the same time, Süß had been a member of the board of the Sachsen-Finanzverband since 2000 and, since its establishment in August 2003, deputy chairman of the Sachsen-Finanzgruppe . On July 1, 2005, he was appointed CEO of Sachsen LB in Leipzig . Under his leadership, the bank got into a liquidity crisis in the summer of 2007, which resulted in the sale to the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg . As a consequence, at the end of August 2007, Suss announced his resignation from the top of the company on September 15, 2007.

Suss was a member of the following additional bodies: Board of Directors of DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale until September 15, 2007, Supervisory Board of Sparkassen-Versicherung Sachsen and Supervisory Board of Konsum Dresden eG.
