Herbert Schönfeld

Herbert Schönfeld (born October 11, 1894 in Zwickau , † December 4, 1979 in Tutzing ) was a German pediatrician and writer.

Life

Herbert Schönfeld studied medicine from 1914 to 1919 at the universities of Jena , Munich , Heidelberg and Leipzig . In 1920 he was treated with the dissertation on the influence of magnesium chloride to the local anesthetic effect of the novocain PhD . He then worked as a general practitioner in Leipzig and in 1930 became a lecturer at the university. In 1936 he moved to Berlin-Charlottenburg as head of the municipal children's clinic , where he was also appointed professor at the university .

In 1948 Schönfeld helped found the Free University of Berlin , where he worked as a professor of paediatrics until his retirement .

As an academic teacher, Schönfeld particularly advocated the inclusion of pedagogical skills in paediatrics. On this subject he also wrote the book Pediatrician and Education (1952). Further works deal with the metaphysical line of thought in the natural sciences.

Herbert Schönfeld has also emerged as a writer since the 1950s, especially as a translator and reteller of ancient texts. In order to perfect his knowledge of Latin and Greek, he studied classical philology with Georg Rohde from 1951 to 1956 . As early as 1943 he had published the story Das Iphigenienspiel . In the 50s to 70s, translations and school text editions by Quintus Curtius Rufus , Caesarius von Heisterbach , Sallust , Catullus , Tibullus and Properz followed . He also published textbooks and auxiliary books for Latin students.
