Herbert Sleegers

Herbert Sleegers (born June 4, 1932 in Grefrath ; † June 3, 2018 in Oberstdorf ) was a Lower Rhine poet and writer .

Life and language art

Herbert Sleegers grew up in Grefrath in the Lower Rhine ( Viersen district ). After graduating from high school (1952) at the Thomaeum grammar school in Kempen , he studied in Aachen and at the universities of Bonn and Düsseldorf . Philosophy, theology and pedagogy. From 1957 to 1996 he was in school service. Sleegers was an employee of the Krefeld literature workshop and the annual publication for literature and graphics, Muschelhaufen, as well as the editor in charge of the magazine Literatur am Niederrhein . Concise pictures and a pronounced sense of language characterize the poetry and short prose texts of the author, who is rooted in the Lower Rhine region , which are based on his own experiences and often have a meditative aura. With the words " He loves language, [...] looks at it from all sides and in this way discovers the hidden life of words, [...] and thus lures the deeper meaning out of the meaning ", Sophia Willems characterized his art of language at the laudation on the occasion of the presentation of the Lower Rhine Literature Prize on December 8, 1996 in Krefeld. Sleegers was represented in literary juries and projects and published numerous specialist articles with a focus on language didactics .

Herbert Sleegers was married with a son and lived in Viersen- Süchteln . He died in Oberstdorf in June 2018, one day before his 86th birthday.
