Herbert Strate

Herbert Strate (born February 3, 1922 in Hagen ; † March 24, 2004 ) was a German cinema operator and local politician ( FDP ).

Life

Herbert Strate ran the Viktoria Theater and the Gloria Theater in Hagen from the 1950s. Later he also ran the Rex Am Ring in Cologne. From 1979 to 1992 he was President of the Main Association of German Film Theaters (HDF) and from 1984 to 1999 Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Film Funding Agency (FFA). As part of his work, Strate played a key role in realigning the HDF.

In Hagen Strate was active as a local politician for the FDP and held the office of mayor from November 1969 to October 1979.

The Herbert Strate Prize is named after him and has been awarded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and the HDF to people who have made outstanding contributions to German film since 2004 .
