The Herderschule Kassel is an upper-level high school for students from the cooperative and integrated comprehensive schools of the Kassel-Ost school association and for students from secondary schools and grammar schools in the city of Kassel . It is located in the Lower New Town of Kassel .

history

The Herderschule was founded in 1955 as the first grammar school for boys and girls in Kassel on the premises of the Heinrich Schütz School and moved in 1960 as a reform grammar school with grades 5–13 to its current location in the mulberry plantation in the east of Kassel, where it had been until then had not given a high school. Oriented towards reform pedagogical ideas, the focus of the school's work was the “ holistic pupil to be trained”, the idea of promoting each pupil in his or her individual abilities was particularly important in order to achieve equal opportunities in the social environment. School was not only understood as a place for the pure transfer of knowledge, but also wanted to strengthen the personal educational profile through a diverse range of learning opportunities. The expression of these efforts were the “day care center” with lunch and homework supervision, “inclination groups” and the musical focus in the school offer. The concept also included a relationship between students and teachers that was open to discussion and discussion. In 1976 the Herderschule was converted from a full high school to an independent upper level high school .

future

The requirements of a modern school are also to be taken into account in future through structural measures. Due to the shortened grammar school course , increasing numbers of pupils must be expected, so that work on an extension building or renovation measures in the main building will begin this school year (as of 2009).

In addition to the library and media library, the planned new building offers smaller rooms with reading and workplaces that can be used flexibly for individual or small group work. In addition, more computer workstations are to be created, a cafeteria for about 80 people, a relaxation room and an auditorium for 180 to 200 people.

Schools of origin

Today around 200–220 “school beginners” from different schools of origin are admitted to class 11 every year. The largest part comes from the partner schools of the Herderschule in the Kassel-Ost school network:
