Timon Gremmels (born January 4, 1976 in Marburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ), political scientist and member of the German Bundestag .

education and profession

After graduating from the Herderschule in Kassel in 1995 , Gremmels completed a degree in political science with minor subjects in law and peace and conflict research at the Philipps University of Marburg . In 2003 he graduated as a political scientist. He then worked from 2003 to 2007 as a research assistant at the MEP Barbara Weiler ( SPD ). He then worked as a program officer for the SPD regional association of Hesse and a consultant at the Social Democratic Community for Local Politics ( SGK ), until in 2008 he took up a position as parliamentary officer for economics, transport, energy, regional development and Europe in the SPD parliamentary group in Hesse. Most recently, in 2009, he held the “ Corporate Social Responsibility ” department on the Management Board of SMA Solar Technology AG .

Political party

In 1992 Gremmels joined the SPD. He was initially involved with the Jusos and was chairman of the Jusos Kassel-Land from 1997 to 2001 and, in 2002, deputy Juso district chairman for Hessen-Nord. From 1999 to 2011 he was a member of the board of the SPD district Hessen-Nord. In addition, from 2003 to 2007 he was chairman of the SPD working group for education in the Hesse-North district. Since 2011 he has been a member of the state executive committee of the Hessian SPD. From April 2015 to June 2019, Gremmels was chairman of the Hessian SPD sub-district with the largest number of members, Kassel-Land. In May 2019 Timon Gremmels was elected as the new district chairman of the SPD Hessen-Nord and in November 2019 as deputy chairman of the Hessian SPD.

MP

In November 2016, Timon Gremmels was nominated for the Bundestag constituency of Kassel for the Bundestag election in September 2017 . In the election he received 35.5 percent of the first votes and thus moved into the 19th German Bundestag as a directly elected member. He is a member of the Bundestag committees for economy and energy as well as petitions.

Timon Gremmels was a member of the Hessian state parliament from November 1, 2009 to October 31, 2017 . Gremmels initially moved up to the state parliament as a substitute candidate for Ulrike Gottschalck and was able to successfully defend the direct mandate of the SPD in the Kassel-Land II constituency in the state elections in 2013 with the country's best first vote result of 47.6 percent. Most recently he was energy policy spokesman and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in Hesse. From 2001 to 2013 Gremmels was a member of the municipal council of his hometown Niestetal and there u. a. Deputy SPD parliamentary group chairman. Since 2001 he has been a member of the district council of the Kassel district .

In the 19th German Bundestag, Gremmels is a full member of the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy , as well as the Petitions Committee . As a deputy member, he is represented in the Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety . In July 2020 he announced that he wanted to apply again for the direct mandate in constituency 168 (Kassel) in the 2021 federal election.

Timon Gremmels is a member of the non-partisan European Union Germany , which advocates a federal Europe and the European unification process.
