The constituency of Kassel (constituency 168) is a Bundestag constituency in Hesse . The constituency includes the city of Kassel as well as the cities and communities of Ahnatal , Espenau , Fuldabrück , Fuldatal , Helsa , Kaufungen , Lohfelden , Nieste , Niestetal , Söhrewald and Vellmar from the Kassel district . Since 1949, the constituency has always been won by the direct candidates of the SPD .

By-election in 1951
As a result of the resignation of the Bundestag member Georg-August Zinn, a by-election in the then Bundestag constituency II (Kassel-Stadt and Kassel-Land) was necessary due to § 15 of the electoral law for the 1st Bundestag and the 1st Federal Assembly of the Federal Republic of Germany.
