history

Knickhagen was first mentioned in 1458 as Gnyghagen in the property registers of the Archdiocese of Mainz . In 1458 the place was Hessian fief of Ludwig Hase. Later it was owned by Hermann Lugelin and owned by Meisenbug . In 1576 the place became fiefdom of those of Calenberg . The lower jurisdiction was exercised by that of Calenberg , who had their headquarters at Calenberg Castle in Calenberg . The blood jurisdiction , however, exercised the office Ahna from the Hessian Landgrave. In 1773 von Calenberg sold Knickhagen to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel .

The first school in town was set up in the former Obermühle in 1829, before the children had to attend school in Holzhausen . In 1836 a new schoolhouse was built opposite the first school. This was used until around 1905 and then converted into an inn. The school, built in 1904/1905, was used until the mid-1960s and then converted into a village community center.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Fuldatal was created on January 1, 1970 through the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent municipalities Ihringshausen, Simmershausen, Wahnhausen, Knickhagen and Wilhelmshausen. As a result, Knickhagen became a part of the large community of Fuldatal. Ihringshausen became the seat of administration.

Knickhagen Castle

Was in at the edge of the stone head in the region of present-day village cemetery the Middle Ages the castle Knickhagen . When and by whom the castle was built is not documented. It was probably built in place of a previous Carolingian castle.

Mirror mill

In 1594 a mill was built at the confluence of the Osterbach in the Fulda , which was used as an ironworks . After this ironworks was relocated to Veckerhagen , Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel had a glassworks built in the "Spiegelmühle" in 1699 , which specialized in the production of crystal glass and mirrors.

Note: There were three other mills in Knickhagen, the upper middle and lower mill. The place was formed around the upper mill. Only the lower mill still reveals its former importance.
