The Osterbach in the northern Hessian district of Kassel is a 7.2 km long, left-hand or northern tributary of the Fulda .
course
The Osterbach rises in the southern part of the Reinhardswald . Its source is on the western flank of the Gahrenberg or on the southeast flank of the Junkernkopf . It is located not far to the southwest of one at 398.5 m above sea level. NHN branch of the wide forest path Alte Kohlenstraße , which connects the Roter Stock car park on Landesstraße 3232 in the west with the Gahrenberg in the east, hidden in the forest at an altitude of about 390 m .
Initially, the Osterbach flows south along the Steigerpfad hiking trail . Having emerged from the forest, it passes Holzhausen to the west , an east- south- east part of Immenhausen , with a stream coming from the source of Hoher Born flowing towards the east. A little further to the south, a bridge over the Landesstrasse 3239, which connects Holzhausen and Wilhelmshausen , crosses the stream .
Then the Osterbach runs along the district road 40, which branches off from the state road , on the one between the north-west Krönchenberg ( 252.6 m ) and the north-east Steinkopf (approx. 250 m ; with the Termenei nature reserve ) at a bridge from the north-north-west towards Holzhausen coming Krummbach flows as its longest tributary. The stream then continues to flow in a south-easterly direction along the K 40 and from now on along the Märchenlandweg and Eco path Kulturgeschichte Knickhagen − Wilhelmshausen to and through Knickhagen , a north-eastern part of the municipality of Fuldatal . In the Middle Ages, Knickhagen Castle stood in the village on the eastern slope above the brook .
A little later, the Osterbach an der Untermühle flows into a stream coming from the Eichenberg near Rothwesten (area of the Fritz-Erler barracks of the Bundeswehr ). The Wilhelmshütte ironworks existed near this mill from 1594 to 1666 . Then the flowing water passes the Spiegelmühle near the mouth, which was founded in 1594 as an ironworks. During the Seven Years' War (1756–1763), the area of both watermills was one of the scenes of the Battle of Lutterberg (23 July 1762), which was named after the village of Lutterberg on the other side of the Fulda on the Lutterberger Höhe (today's part of Staufenberg in Lower Saxony ) .
Between the Wahnshausen and Wilhelmshausen districts of Fulda valley , the K 40 accompanying the Osterbach meets the federal highway 3 , about 1.2 km southeast of Knickhagen, at a height of 128.3 m , which shares the route with the Sleeping Beauty Route of the German Fairy Tale Route . After crossing it and that of the Fulda Cycle Path , the stream flows into the western Weser source river Fulda at around 125 m above sea level , in the middle of which is the border with the Göttingen district in Lower Saxony. Opposite its mouth, located at the Fulda river kilometer 9.85, is the Speeler Wartturm (also known as the waiting tower ), which was built in the Middle Ages and was once used to monitor trade routes to the south or across the river .
Watershed
The source area of the Osterbach lies on the Fulda-Diemel watershed , which is part of the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed : While the Osterbach flows south into the Fulda and then into the Weser , the Lempe , which is about 2, 7 km north-north-west of the Osterbach spring on the other side of the Junkernkopf , north-west into the Esse , which strives north over the Diemel to the north of the Weser.
