The Waldeck constituency (constituency 167) is a Bundestag constituency in Hesse . The constituency includes the cities and communities of Bad Emstal , Bad Karlshafen , Baunatal , Breuna , Calden , Grebenstein , Habichtswald , Hofgeismar , Immenhausen , Liebenau , Naumburg , Reinhardshagen , Schauenburg , Trendelburg , Wesertal , Wolfhagen , Zierenberg and the Reinhardswald estate from the Kassel district as well as the cities and communities Bad Arolsen , Bad Wildungen , Diemelsee , Diemelstadt , Edertal , Korbach , Lichtenfels , Twist valley , Volkmarsen , Waldeck and Willingen (Upland) from the Waldeck-Frankenberg district .

The constituency was previously considered an SPD stronghold and was always won by the direct candidates of the SPD from 1957 to 2009 . In the 2013 federal election, the CDU won the constituency for the first time with its candidate Thomas Viesehon.

The  2017 Bundestag election will take place on Sunday, September 24, 2017. In Hessen , 20 parties applied with their state list. The Alliance of German Democrats withdrew their application. The violet one was rejected by the state election committee because the required two thousand signatures for support were not presented. Thus 18 parties apply with their state lists in Hesse. A total of 353 applicants are running on the state lists, less than a third (114) of them women.

By-election in 1951

Due to the death of the Bundestag member Karl Rüdiger on February 20, 1951, a by-election in the then Bundestag constituency I (districts Hofgeismar, Wolfhagen and Waldeck) was necessary due to § 15 of the electoral law for the 1st Bundestag and the 1st Federal Assembly of the Federal Republic of Germany. This then took place on April 15, 1951 by order of the Hessian state returning officer.
