Obervellmar is the largest district of the municipality of Vellmar in the northern Hessian district of Kassel . The town hall with the city administration is located in this district.

geography

The place is six kilometers northwest of Kassel an der Ahne . Bundesstraße 7 runs to the west , and state highways 3234 and 3386 meet in town. There is a train station where the RegioTram Kassel and the Kurhessenbahn stop.

history

The village in 775, when that was first documented Hersfeld Abbey in Filmare had possession. The Protestant church was built in the 15th century with a late Gothic west tower. In 1616 the nave was renewed and in 1824 it was extended in a classical style.

During the time of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813) the place was the administrative seat of the canton of Ober-Vellmar .

On December 1, 1970 , as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent municipalities of Vellmar and Obervellmar voluntarily merged to form the expanded municipality of "Vellmar".

Infrastructure

The Ahnepark is located between the main road and the Volkmarsen – Vellmar-Obervellmar railway line .

In Obervellmar there is a primary school , a comprehensive school , a daycare center and a community center , which is, however, closed since 2011 due to asbestos exposure.

The station Vellmar-Obervellmar is on the Kassel-Warburg railway and the railway Volkmarsen-Vellmar-Obervellmar .
