Heribert Schmidt (born December 10, 1920 in Assinghausen , † January 27, 2008 in Meschede ) was a Sauerland local poet and local politician.

Life

Schmidt was a son of the Reichsbahn assistant Anton Schmidt and the youngest of four brothers. After elementary school he completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter from 1935 to 1939 . From 1940 to 1944 he was then conscripted to the Ernst Heinkel aircraft works and to the air force . From 1944 to 1948 Schmidt was a British prisoner of war. After the war , he worked as a technical employee from 1948 to 1983.

In addition, from 1956 he was on the board of directors and supervisory board of the local savings and loan fund. In the period from 1964 to 1981 he held various local political offices in his home town of Wulmeringhausen and in the city of Olsberg, among other things as deputy mayor.

While he was a prisoner of war in England, Schmidt was a copywriter on Brunero's prison theater ; he wrote operettas and revues and motivated his fellow prisoners to play theater. For many years he was an important source of inspiration in the Olsberger Heimatbund, from 1983 onwards as a member of the board.

Schmidt wrote mainly in High German, but he gained particular popularity with his texts in Sauerland Platt . The Westfalenpost wrote in its obituary:

“He knew better than anyone else how to buy Suerlänner Platt and looked at everyday life with all its upheavals:“ Heer-Guad, pass op! Se fusket dei do tüsken. Heer-Guad, shut dropp! Dau must ne nnen know! ""

Schmidt died in January 2008 as a result of a serious operation.
