Heritage is the tenth studio album by the Swedish progressive metal band Opeth . It was published on 13./14. September 2011 at Roadrunner Records .

history

On Heritage , the band leaves the earlier death metal influences behind completely. The album was created in early 2011 at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm . Produced by Mikael Åkerfeldt himself, it was mixed by Steven Wilson . Janne Hansson was the sound engineer . On December 1, 2010, the band announced that they were going to the studio in Stockholm. Akerfeldt had already reported to the press in September 2010 on the occasion of the DVD release of In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall about his writing process for the new album.

The magazine Rock Hard dedicated the band advance a ten-page cover story and appeared with an extra CD that The Devil's Orchard of Heritage and six other live cuts of Rock Hard Festival contained.

Criticism and success

Reviews on the baby blue pages were mostly benevolent. a. the courage to change style and the quality of craftsmanship were praised. On the other hand, it was criticized that there was a lack of originality and highlights. In Rock Hard the album reached eighth place on the monthly "Richter scale" with an average rating of 7.5 out of 10 points. Holger Stratmann described Heritage as an "interesting album with slight weaknesses". The music magazine Eclipsed named Heritage album of the year 2011, after it was already album of the month in October. Mike Borrink noted that Åkerfeldt “must have come to the end of a long journey with this album. [...] Opeth remain unique and honest. "

With number 9 in Germany, the album reached the band's first top ten placement. It came in 19th place in the United States.
