Herma Stiglitz

Herma Stiglitz (born Hermine Thaller ; born July 29, 1921 in Vienna ) is an Austrian Provincial Roman archaeologist .

Life

Herma Thaller studied Ancient History and Classical Archeology at the University of Vienna since 1940 . On April 4, 1945 she received her doctorate with Rudolf Egger and Josef Keil with a thesis “The population of Noricum”. From 1947 to 1988 she worked as a research assistant at the Austrian Archaeological Institute . In 1984 she was appointed court counselor and in 1985/86 she was provisional director of the Austrian Archaeological Institute. She was also a university lecturer at the Institute for Ancient History and Classical Archeology at the University of Vienna. She carried out numerous excavations on the Roman Limes in Austria, especially in Mautern , Zwentendorf and Carnuntum .

Since 1953 she was married to the ancient historian Roman Stiglitz (1922–1988).
