Roman Stiglitz

Roman Stiglitz (born August 2, 1922 in Villach ; † December 22, 1988 ) was an Austrian ancient historian .

Life

Roman Stiglitz attended the Academic Gymnasium in Bregenz and passed his Matura with distinction on March 8, 1940 at the Hollabrunn Federal High School . He studied with Artur Betz, Rudolf Egger , Joseph Keil, Richard Champion , John Mewaldt and Camillo Praschniker after Reichsarbeitsdienst May to September 1940, the University of Vienna , the subjects History , Ancient History, Classical Archeology and Classical Philology . His studies were interrupted by military service in the Air Force as a radio operator (1942–1945). As a prisoner of war he continued his studies for two semesters in Erlangen . After returning in 1946, he was there with Artur Betz and Josef Keil in 1950 with the work of the setting of the Greek rural labor doctorate and in 1967 with the signature , the great goddesses of Arcadia. The cult name Megalai theai and its basics habilitated . From 1967 to 1973 he was a university lecturer at his alma mater. In 1970 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Vienna and retired in 1987. He was buried at the Sieveringen cemetery . On July 18, 1953, Stiglitz married the archaeologist and fellow student Hermine Thaller , with whom he had a son (* 1960).
