Herman Lindqvist

Herman Lindqvist (born April 1, 1943 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish writer , journalist and popular historian.

Lindqvist was a foreign correspondent in Prague , Paris , Beirut , Hong Kong , Bangkok , Cairo , Tokyo and Madrid . There he mainly dealt with war and disasters and wrote about his stays and the like. a. Causery books .

In recent years he became known for his popular historical television program and the book series The History of Sweden ( Historien om Sverige ), which was sold in large editions. He is often referred to as a royalist , because his texts traditionally focus on the royal family and other personalities, while social and economic changes find little space.

biography

Always interested in Swedish history, he grew up as the youngest of six siblings in the Swedish embassy in Helsinki after the Second World War . Lindqvist's father was a press attaché and so he came into contact with a large number of foreign correspondents at home early on. At the age of 22 he started his career at the Stockholm newspaper Tidningen , then worked for the Göteborg Handels- und Maritime Newspaper , the tabloid Aftonbladet , the newspaper Expressen , the Swedish television and radio. He has been a freelance writer since 1990, but lived in Sweden for only 7 years of his life.

Lindqvist currently lives in Chambourcy , near Paris . He is an adoptive great-grandson of Herman Lindqvist (1863-1932), grandson of the writer Leon Larsson, married to Birgitta Lindqvist since 1979 and the father of Elin, Johan, Liva, Peter and Lena Lindqvist.

In 2012 he was appalled by the first names of the Swedish Crown Princess Estelle of Sweden after her birth. He described her as "totally unexpected and inappropriate" and "the name of a nightclub queen". With his remarks, he sparked a discussion in the Swedish press and on the Internet.
