Hermanas Perelšteinas
Hermanas Perelšteinas (born June 7, 1923 in Koenigsberg , † January 11, 1998 in New York City ) was a Lithuanian choir conductor and music teacher of Jewish origin ( Litwak ).
Life
At the age of 6 he learned to play the piano with I. Volbertienė. From 1932 to 1940, Herman studied at the German and Jewish grammar school in Kaunas and from 1936 attended the Kaunas Conservatory , where he studied piano with E. Laumenskienė and T. Giršovičienė. In 1941 his family was deported to Siberia by the Soviet government. In 1954 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry of the Yakutsk Pedagogical Institute . During his studies he worked as a concertmaster in the Yakutsk Music Theater. From 1954 to 1956 he studied at the music school in Sverdlovsk . From 1956 to 1960 he worked as concertmaster at the Valstybinė konservatorija in Vilnius and in 1959 graduated with honors from Klemensas Griauzdė's diploma in choral conducting . From 1960 to 1964 he taught at the Vilniaus pedagoginis institutas and from 1964 to 1979 at the Lietuvos valstybinė konservatorija as a professor . He founded the boys' choir " Ąžuoliukas " and was an art director.
From 1979 he lived in the USA and worked in schools.
He became the first honorary professor of the Lietuvos muzikos akademija and honorary president of the club "Ąžuolai".
In 1994 he was awarded the Gediminas Order (3rd grade).
