Hermann Albert Leopold Morgen (* December 24, 1810 in Tilsit (East Prussia) , † April 23, 1884 in Neisse ) was Prussian major general and most recently director of the artillery workshop in Neisse.

Life

His parents were the pastor Gottfried Samuel Morgen and his wife Juliane Wilhelmine Philippine Steinberg (* 1784, † April 5, 1832).

Career

He received his education at the grammar school in Tilsit. After graduating, he joined the 1st Artillery Brigade on June 1, 1828. There he was appointed portepeef ensign on December 17, 1831, and from October 1, 1832 to September 30, 1834, he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . During this time he was aggregated on October 10, 1833 as a second lieutenant and then on his return on December 20, 1834 as an artillery officer. He was then assigned variously, from April 1, 1838 to March 31, 1840 at the trade institute in Berlin and from December 1, 1843 at the rifle revision commission in Danzig. There he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on November 12, 1844, before coming to Neisse on March 9, 1848 as a member of the rifle revision commission. He stayed there until August 2, 1849 when he was released from his command.

After his return to the regiment, he was promoted to captain on June 30, 1852, and battery chief on October 1, 1852 . But on December 14, 1854, he was transferred to the 2nd artillery regiment as head of the craftsmen's company. From there he came to Neisse on June 4, 1857 as director of the artillery workshop and was placed à la suite of the 5th Artillery Regiment. Promoted to major without a patent on June 29, 1859 , he received it on July 14, 1860, dated June 14, 1859. On June 25, 1864, he was appointed lieutenant colonel and again à la suite of the 5th artillery regiment. On June 14, 1865, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class, and on September 20, 1866, the character of Colonel. In addition to his salary of 1,300 thalers, he received an annual grant of 600 thalers from September 13, 1865, and then on January 8, 1867, the patent as a colonel. On March 9, 1871 he received his departure with the character of major general and pension. He died on April 23, 1884 in Neisse.

Morgen married on May 13, 1845 in Danzig Sophie Dorothea Mallison (born November 18, 1820 - † January 8, 1891), a daughter of the landowner and owner of a copper hammer George Mallison. The couple had several children:
