Hermann Alois Baum

Hermann Alois Baum (born December 2, 1943 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German philosopher and professor emeritus .

Career

He first studied philosophy and theology at the Philosophical-Theological Course in Erfurt , then design at the Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle (Saale). After his escape from the GDR he continued his studies (philosophy, theology, political science and German studies) at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , at the Sorbonne and the Institut Catholique de Paris , at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , at the University of Laval ( Québec , Canada ) and Carleton University ( Ottawa , Canada). In Munich and London he took part in training as a lecturer at the Goethe Institute .

At Carleton University in Ottawa, he completed his German studies with a Master of Arts . At the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich he received his doctorate as Dr. phil (philosophy), at the Université Laval he completed his theology studies with a doctorate (Ph. D., certified in Germany : Dr. theol. CDN). He received his habilitation in philosophy at the University of Kassel , where he has been a private lecturer since his habilitation.

First he was a lecturer at the University of Saarbrücken , then he emigrated to Canada, where he worked as a professor and visiting professor at various universities in Nova Scotia , Québec and Ontario and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University (USA). After his return to Germany he was a substitute professor at the University of Kassel, then a professor at the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia in Paderborn and Cologne .

Research priorities

Historically, his main interest was in the philosophy of Immanuel Kant , systematically in ethics , philosophical anthropology and the philosophy of religion .
