Hermann Büsing (archaeologist)

Hermann Heinrich Büsing (born June 3, 1940 in Marburg ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Hermann Büsing received his doctorate in 1967 with the thesis The Greek Half Column at the University of Marburg . In 1968/69 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . He then worked as an assistant at the University of Mainz and completed his habilitation in 1977 at the University of Bochum. Until his retirement in 2005 he was Professor of Classical Archeology at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Büsing researches, among other things, Greek , Macedonian , Asian Minor and Roman architecture. In this context he also deals with metrological issues. He is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and is married to the archaeologist Andrea Büsing-Kolbe . With her he led the excavation of a Roman road station ( Mansio ) in northern Italy between Ficarolo and Gaiba . Ulrich-Walter Gans and Regina Peters-Abbey are among his academic students .
