Hermann Bahlsen (manufacturer, 1927)

Hermann Bahlsen (born November 6, 1927 in Hanover ; † June 6, 2014 in Wiesbaden ) was a German baked goods manufacturer . He was a long-time member of the management and co-owner of the biscuit manufacturer Bahlsen .

Life

Hermann Bahlsen junior was the son of Hans Bahlsen and a grandson of the company founder Hermann Bahlsen . His maternal grandfather, Willy Tischbein , was General Director of Continental Gummiwerke in Hanover.

In World War II Hermann Bahlsen was Luftwaffenhelfer and briefly in the last year of the war in the Navy. After the end of the war he did various internships, made up his Abitur in 1947 and studied mechanical engineering from 1948 to 1954 at the TU Hannover and Northwestern University in Evanston , Illinois , with a master’s degree .

After initial professional experience at various companies, he joined the management of Bahlsen in 1956 as head of the then new plant in Barsinghausen . After the death of his father in 1960, he took his place at the side of his two uncles. Initially he was responsible for production in the German subsidiaries, later he was the management spokesman. Since 1976 he has been a personally liable partner . From 1963 he became involved in the Lions Club Hannover.

In 1993 Hermann Bahlsen jr. after almost four decades in the management of the Hanover company in a dispute with his younger cousins Werner Michael Bahlsen and Lorenz Bahlsen from the management. In 1996 he left the biscuit manufacturer entirely, and was paid off with the takeover of the capital shares and management of some American company holdings as well as the real estate division of the Bahlsen Group.

He also withdrew from his numerous honorary posts. Among other things, he was president of the Lower Saxony employers' associations from 1981 to 1995 , then honorary president. From 1986 to 1995 he was chairman of the Federal Association of the German Food Industry (BVE), and for many years also vice-president and board member of the Confédération des Industries Agro-Alimentaires de l'Union Européenne (CIAA, now FoodDrinkEurope ), the umbrella association of the European food and beverage industry.

His first marriage, which was divorced in 1996, comes from his three children Alexander (1957-2019), Hubertus (* 1959) and Dagmar (* 1963). On September 21, 2009, Hermann Bahlsen married the language trainer Katja Korkowski in Wiesbaden, with whom he was married until his death. His grave is in the New St. Nikolai Cemetery in Hanover.
