Hermann Crusius (also Cruse ; * 1640 [baptized November 23] in Moers ; † April 11, 1693 ibid) was a German classical philologist , writer and teacher.

Life

Crusius attended the Latin school (later the Adolfinum Gymnasium ) in his hometown of Moers and then the University of Duisburg . In 1665, when he was not even 25, he became rector of the Latin school in Elberfeld . From 1680 until his death in 1693 he was principal of the Latin school in Moers. Despite being temporarily impaired by acts of war in the course of the War of the Palatinate Succession , he was able to expand the school and add a sixth grade, also with the help of the foundation of a former student. Crusius published epigrams (Duisburg 1679) and two speeches on the English King Wilhelm III. (Duisburg 1689 and 1691), as well as occasional poems.
