Wilhelm Crecelius (historian)
Wilhelm Crecelius (born May 18, 1828 in Hungen , † December 13, 1889 in Elberfeld ) was a German high school teacher and historian . He dealt with the history of the Bergisches Land and the Low German language research.
From 1854 to 1856 he worked as a teacher at the Blockmann'schen Erziehungsanstalt in Dresden .
From 1863, initially together with the grammar school director Karl Wilhelm Bouterwek , after his death in 1868 he was sole editor of the magazine of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein , a series of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein in which he had taken on other functions. The Crecelius Medal , so named in memory of the services of the pedagogue and historian, is the highest distinction awarded by the Bergisches Geschichtsverein.
