Hermann Erpf

Hermann Erpf (born April 23, 1891 in Pforzheim ; † October 17, 1969 in Stuttgart ) was a German music teacher , music theorist and composer . He was one of the formative personalities of the German youth music movement .

Erpf was first from 1935 director of the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, 1943–1945 and 1952–1956 director of the State University of Music Stuttgart . During this time he wrote many music pedagogical works. His compositional oeuvre, which consists mainly of choral movements on folk songs and settings by Angelus Silesius , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Heinrich Heine , Friedrich Hebbel and Richard Dehmel , has been published in song books for school and choir use. Erpf also composed piano and chamber music.
