Hermann Flender (diplomat)

Hermann Flender (born January 9, 1918 in Weidenau , † August 7, 2004 in Siegen ) was a German diplomat and ambassador .

Life

Flender was the offspring of an entrepreneurial family from Siegerland and studied business administration and law in Munich from 1946 to 1950. He then entered the diplomatic service.

In 1953 he was an economic consultant in the rank of Vice Consul at the Consulate General in San Francisco and in 1959 was appointed Legation Councilor at the Foreign Office in Bonn. In 1960 he became a councilor / head of the economic department in Addis Ababa . 1962 was the appointment as Consul I. Kl., Consulate General Milan . From 1967 Flender served as Deputy Consul General in Chicago .

From 1978 to 1980 he was ambassador to Kigali in Rwanda and from 1980 to 1983 to Vientiane in Laos . In 1983 he retired.

He was honored in Italy with an Officer's Cross of the National Order of Merit and in France with the Commander's Cross of the French Ordre national du Mérite . He was also an honorary citizen of Minneapolis ( Minnesota / USA ) and Commandeur de l'Ordre de Léopold in Belgium . In 1983 he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
