Hermann Franconia

Hermann Franken (born January 28, 1846 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † May 17, 1931 at Gut Frankenhof near Reken ) was a German entrepreneur and politician . He was a member of the German Reichstag , the Prussian House of Representatives and various clubs and associations.

Life

Franconia attended the elementary school in Mülheim from 1852 to 1859 and during the three-year apprenticeship in his father's workshop from 1859 to 1861 the advanced training school for craftsmen. He settled in Schalke as a master locksmith in 1870 and expanded his business into a factory in 1880. This sheet metal goods factory and galvanizing plant was later expanded to include branches in Neheim-Hüsten and at the Gelsenkirchen harbor and converted into a stock corporation. After Hermann Franken retired, the company ran into difficulties as a result of the global economic crisis and went bankrupt in the year of Franken's death (1931).

Hermann Franken was a member of the district council of the Gelsenkirchen district and was a member of the management committee of the Westphalian Fire Brigade Association. He was also chairman of the Association of Protestant Workers' Associations in the Rhineland and Westphalia and co-founder of the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Feuerwehrmuseum and the Heimatmuseum in Gelsenkirchen.

From 1898 to 1903 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the National Liberal Party , as a member of the constituency of Arnsberg 5 (at that time including the Gelsenkirchen district, the Bochum district , the Hattingen district and the cities of Gelsenkirchen , Bochum and Witten ). From 1904 to 1908 he was also a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

On February 11, 1926, the city of Gelsenkirchen granted him honorary citizenship .
