Hermann Götz

Hermann Götz (born September 28, 1848 in Donaueschingen ; † July 28, 1901 in Karlsruhe ) was a German painter , lithographer , sculptor and craftsman who also taught as a professor at the Karlsruhe School of Applied Arts .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a lithographer and decorative painter, Hermann Götz attended the Karlsruhe Polytechnic from 1866 and studied with Ferdinand Keller at the Karlsruhe Art Academy from 1872 . Already at the age of 30 Götz became a teacher at the Kunstgewerbeschule Karlsruhe, four years later its director. In this function he directed numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad. In 1885 he founded the Baden arts and crafts association and in 1889 the arts and crafts museum. In 1877/78 he traveled to Italy, in 1897 to Upper Egypt, Syria and Palestine. One of his most important personal successes was the gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris 1900 for the design of the new wedding room for the Karlsruhe City Hall . The illustrations for Goethe and Schiller for the Hallberger publishing house , later a German publishing company, stand out from his illustrative work .
