Hermann Glander

Hermann Glander (born September 20, 1902 in Stettin ; † March 13, 1994 in Schwerin ) was a German journalist and writer.

Life

Hermann Glander was born in Stettin in 1902. After completing a commercial apprenticeship, he worked as an employee in various companies in industry and commerce until he became an employee of the social democratic magazine Stettiner Volksbote in 1924 . The knowledge he acquired here made him the author of art reviews and reviews. His trade union work and political activity brought him to the Gollnow prison for “preparation for high treason” from 1935 to 1939 . From 1943 to 1945 he was drafted into the 999 Parole Battalion and came back from American and French captivity in 1946.

From 1946 he was initially editor of the regional edition of the Landes-Zeitung in Greifswald , but moved to Schwerin in 1948 to work as an editor and publishing employee at Petermänken-Verlag . He carried out these functions until the publishing house closed in 1964. In addition, from 1953 to 1977 he was editor of the picture calendar “Land am Meer” and from 1955 to 1972 editor of the magazine Glaube und Hoffnung . Numerous articles appeared from his hand, among others in the New Mecklenburg monthly magazines and in Land und Menschen . Glander was a member of the Kulturbund .

In 1963 Hermann Glander wrote the book “ Ahrenshoop ” together with Erich Venzmer and Gerhard Vetter (photos) , the first monograph on the history of this artist's town on the Baltic Sea , which is still frequently cited today . More books on this topic should follow, as well as essays for the “Norddeutschen Leuchtturm”, the weekend supplement of the Norddeutsche Zeitung . Hermann Glander died in 1994 at the age of 92.
