Gerhard Vetter (photographer)

Gerhard Vetter (born December 2, 1918 in Eilenburg , † May 1, 1971 in Wustrow ) was a German photographer .

Life

Vetter first attended secondary school in order to then complete vocational training as a specialist druggist in Leipzig . When he was drafted into the Wehrmacht , he was able to take part in a special training course in photography at the Neubiberger Aviation School. After the Second World War he was taken prisoner of war until 1948. In 1951 he passed his skilled worker examination to become a photographer , two years later the master’s examination . During this time he worked as a photographer on the Baltic Sea in the summer season and took part in international photo exhibitions.

In order to secure his artistic work financially, he worked as an advertising and portrait photographer as well as an amateur film editor from 1952. In 1956 he moved to Wustrow, where he discovered his passion for nature and nude photography . These were printed in magazines such as Das Magazin , Sport-Revue or Fotografie . In cooperation with the Hinstorff Verlag in Rostock and the Petermänken Verlag in Schwerin , extensive illustrated books by Vetter were created. He gave up his craft business in 1967 and since then has only devoted himself to artistic image representation.

Vetter had been married since 1940 and had two sons. His grave is in the cemetery in Wustrow.
