Otto Försterling
Otto Försterling (born June 18, 1843 in Berlin , † September 3, 1904 in Leipzig ) was a German genre and landscape painter .
Life
Försterling began studying at the Berlin Art Academy in 1862 and was a student of Julius Schrader from 1862 to 1866 . In 1873 he settled in Kleinzschachwitz near Dresden and owned a residential and studio building on Storchenneststrasse. In 1890 he moved to Leipzig . Travels took him to Tyrol, Northern Italy and in 1879/80 to Rome.
Försterling's work shows atmospheric landscapes, populated with characters from fairy tales and mythology under titles such as the spring nymph and centaurs fighting with tigers , as well as historical images with religious motifs, such as the flight to Egypt and Golgotha . Försterling's work was shown in various exhibitions during his lifetime; a representation of the Seekofel came into the holdings of the Museum zu Altenburg.
Försterling wrote an autobiography that appeared in the biographical compilation Das Geistige Deutschland in 1898 .
His daughter Käthe Roman-Försterling (* 1871 in Dresden) married the landscape painter Max Wilhelm Roman in Karlsruhe in 1891 . She had studied there at the arts and crafts school, was a painter and graphic artist and taught flower painting at the Karlsruhe School of Painting .
