Hermann Hugo Neithold

Hermann Hugo Neithold (* 1862 in Leipzig , † 1939 in Zurich ) was a German businessman and art collector .

Life

Hermann Hugo Neithold was born in Leipzig and worked as an authorized signatory and head buyer for South American wool at the worsted spinning mill Heinrich Dietel in Wilkau . In 1916 he retired to Dresden . Because of his merits and his social prestige, he had acquired a fortune, most of which he invested in art. Within two decades he acquired over 50 paintings from the Munich School as well as the Munich and Berlin Secession from 1850. These include landscapes, portraits , still lifes and genre paintings by Lovis Corinth , Franz Defregger , Wilhelm von Diez , Max Liebermann , Eduard Schleich the Elder , Carl Spitzweg and Wilhelm Trübner . The private collection has largely been preserved in one piece to this day.
