Life

Hermann J. Strenger was born the son of a Bayer employee and, like him, joined the paint factories on April 1, 1949 as a commercial apprentice, the future of which was still unclear at the time. After completing his training, he worked in various departments, mainly in chemicals sales. From 1954 to 1957 he worked in São Paulo to set up the branch there. After his return he completed further training courses and in 1958 took over responsibility for the distribution of synthetic and tanning agents in Sweden .

In 1961 Strenger became sales manager for coating raw materials and in 1963, at the age of 34, he was appointed the company's youngest authorized signatory. Six years later he became a department director. In 1970 he took over the commercial management of the Polyurethanes division and became spokesman for this division, central procurement and the Latin America region . Finally, in 1984, he became the first non-chemist to be appointed CEO. During his tenure, he set great store by expanding research and international cooperation. From 1987 to 1993 he was head of the board of trustees of the Carl Duisberg Society . In 1989 the Hermann Strenger Foundation was established to promote international professional experience.

In 1992, Strenger changed from chairing the board to chairing the supervisory board, of which he had been honorary chairman since 2002.

Strenger died on September 13, 2016 shortly before the age of 88 and was buried after the exequies in Altenberg Cathedral on September 23, 2016 in the Birkenberg cemetery in Leverkusen.
