Hermann Korbion (born June 30, 1926 in Sobernheim near Bad Kreuznach , † August 6, 1999 ) was a German judge and legal scholar . As its pioneer, he had a decisive influence on German private building law at the end of the 20th century.

Life

Korbion was born on June 30th, 1926 as the son of a respected family of craftsmen in Sobernheim near Bad Kreuznach in the Rhineland, just a few weeks before the introduction of the “Reich Contracting Regulations for Building Services” (later: Contracting Regulations for Building Services , VOB). After graduating from high school in 1948 and completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter, he began to study law and then started a career as a judge from 1958 , which led him to the head of the building senate at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court as its chairman (1975-1991). He was also an honorary professor for construction law at the University of Hanover .

Of particular importance is the "Ingenstau / Korbion" published by Korbion since 1960 (16 th edition in 2008, continued by Vygen / Locher), the most important commentary of the VOB in practice . Hermann Korbion was also a co-founder of the journal Construction Law (BauR) and its co-editor until his death.

In 1997, two years before his death on August 6, 1999, Korbion formulated his legacy under building law in the Festschrift for Götz von Craushaar (“A forum for building law”) under the title “Thoughts of a“ development worker ”on German building contract law. Korbion was regarded as a visionary with regard to a fair construction world in which both the client and the contractor side should not only have their own profit in mind, but also strive to do a "common cause".
