Karl Wilhelm Hermann Masius (born January 7, 1818 in Trebnitz , † May 22, 1893 in Leipzig ) was a German educator .

Life

Masius was the eldest son of the estate manager and later tax officer Heinrich August Masius (1788–1869) and his first wife Marie Christiane Leopoldine nee. Raap. From autumn 1829 he attended the Latin secondary school of the orphanage in Halle and studied at the University of Halle from 1837–1842 first theology, then pedagogy and natural sciences. After a brief activity at the pedagogy in Halle, he was a teacher at the secondary school in Annaberg in Saxony from autumn 1843 to Easter 1844, then from Easter 1844 to autumn 1853 a teacher at the high school in Salzwedel. From 1862 Masius was the first full professor of education at the University of Leipzig .

With Alfred Fleckeisen he was the editor of the yearbooks for philology and pedagogy from 1863 , from 1870 to 1893 (17th to 31st edition) he was the editor of the anthology of poetry founded by Theodor Echtermeyer , a selection of German poems for secondary schools .
