Alfred Fleckeisen
Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Alfred Fleckeisen (born September 20, 1820 in Wolfenbüttel , † August 7, 1899 in Dresden ) was a German philologist and educator .
Life
Fleckeisen attended grammar school in Helmstedt from 1829 to 1839. He then studied philology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . His teachers included Friedrich Wilhelm Schneidewin , Ernst von Leutsch and Friedrich Wieseler . In the autumn of 1845 he passed the state examination in Wiesbaden and at Easter 1846 began teaching at the grammar school in Weilburg as a Latin and Greek teacher.
In 1851 he was appointed to the Blochmannsche Institute in Dresden , which he left in 1854 to teach at the municipal grammar school in Frankfurt am Main with Johannes Classen . On 17 October 1856, the Faculty of Philosophy of the awarded him the University of Greifswald , the honorary doctorate to award to his scientific work. In 1874 he was accepted as a full member of the Royal Saxon Society of Sciences .
Fleckeisen returned to Dresden in 1861 and began to work as vice-principal at the Vitzthum grammar school . He taught there until his retirement in 1889. Fleckeisen died in Dresden in 1899 and was buried in the Trinitatisfriedhof .
Fleckeisen became known as editor of the yearbooks for philology and through his work on Plautus and Terence . A lifelong friendship connected him with Friedrich Ritschl .
