His father was the master carpenter Nicolas Jacob Fersenfeldt, with whom Alexis de Chateauneuf was an apprentice.

Fersenfeldt was a student of Friedrich Weinbrenner in Karlsruhe and settled in Hamburg in 1818 after completing his training and extensive trips, where he founded a construction school. With the tower dome for the Jacobikirche (1826-1828) he became known as an architect to the public.

In connection with the Association for Hamburg History , he was authorized next to the lithographer Johannes Anderson, Alexis de Chateauneuf , Martin Gensler (1811-1881) and Otto Speckter to remove historically valuable components or objects from endangered buildings that also affected churches to hand them over in secure storage.

In the area of the Althamburg Memorial Cemetery of the Ohlsdorf Cemetery , Hermann Peter Fersenfeldt is commemorated on the architect's collective grave .

“The repeated accidents of recent times have encouraged our fellow citizens to see more effective measures taken to save human lives when there is a risk of fire. If we add a new one to the numerous proposals that have been made, it is up to us to indicate the reasons for which the measures recommended by others do not seem quite sufficient to us, and to justify the expediency of our own proposal. The proposal presented here provides for a division of the city into districts with a number of active men as auxiliary men and a chairman in order to be on the spot more quickly in the event of a fire and to be able to provide help "
