Theodor Raspe

Theodor Raspe (born May 18, 1879 in Rostock , † April 24, 1915 on the Western Front ) was a German historian , monument conservator and museum director.

Life

Theodor Raspe was born the son of a businessman in Rostock. After attending school in his hometown, he studied architecture in Dresden and Charlottenburg , and archeology and art history in Munich and Rostock . In 1905 he was with Scripture Nuremberg miniature painting to 1515 to the Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1906 Raspe was a research assistant under Justus Brinckmann at the Hamburg Museum of Art and Industry . On May 1, 1909, Raspe was appointed director of the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Oldenburg . Raspe's area of ​​expertise was faience and Low German folk art.

As a result, Raspe was instrumental in founding the Oldenburg Museum Society. In addition, Raspe was also a board member of the Association for Classical Antiquities and Regional History.

Theodor Raspe took part in the First World War as a lieutenant and leader of the Oldenburg 9th Company of the 77th Landwehr Regiment and fell on the Western Front on April 24, 1915.
