Hermann Pohle (painter)

Hermann Pohle (born November 23, 1831 in Berlin , † July 5, 1901 in Düsseldorf ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

Pohle was first trained by a landscape painter in Potsdam before studying at the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin . Eduard Biermann was one of his teachers there . After he had finished his military year he went to Düsseldorf, where he studied from 1853 to 1856 at the art academy with the landscape painters Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Hans Fredrik Gude . Study trips took him to Germany , Italy and Switzerland . Pictures by Pohl can be found in museums in Düsseldorf, Elberfeld and Prague as well as in the Kunsthalle Bremen . His son, the painter Hermann Emil Pohle , born in 1863 , also lived and worked in Düsseldorf, where they are both buried in the Nordfriedhof .
