from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Rohling (born December 5, 1946 in Melle ) is a German mathematician and professor at the Institute for Telecommunications at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH).

Life

After studying mathematics at the University of Stuttgart , Rohling initially worked as a research assistant at the Research Institute for Telecommunications at AEG-Telefunken in Ulm in the areas of digital radar signal analysis, statistical decision theory and signal theory . At AEG he worked together with Albrecht Ludloff . He received his doctorate from RWTH Aachen University and in 1988 took over a professorship at TU Braunschweig . There he headed the "Department for Signal Theory in Positioning and Information Technology" of the Institute for Telecommunications. Eleven years later, Rohling moved to the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg.

Between July 2005 and September 2011 he held the office of Vice President (Research) of the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg. In October 2010 he took over the chairmanship of the board of the German Society for Positioning and Navigation (DGON), whose Radar Technology Committee he had been in charge of since 1995.

Rohling is a co-founder of sms Smart Microwave Sensors GmbH and is involved in over 30 patents .

He is married and has three grown children - two daughters and a son.
