Hermann Roskoschny

Hermann Emil Joseph Roskoschny (born November 23, 1845 in Prague , † November 8, 1896 in Berlin ) was a German writer and publisher .

Life

Roskoschny studied in Prague (where he also became a member of Corps Austria , from which he later left) and Munich . In 1872 and 1873 he was a lecturer in St. Petersburg . From 1874 to 1877 he was editor of the magazine Der Hausfreund . Around 1894 he ran the Slavic bookstore H. Roskoschny in Leipzig together with a publisher. His book on Afghanistan and its neighboring countries was the most extensive work published in German on this topic in the 19th century. It is still published as a standard work. As a translator , he translated the works of Lev Nikolajewitsch Tolstoy from Russian into German.
