Hermann Schätzler

Hermann Schätzler (born August 19, 1923 in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate ; † April 1, 2009 there ) was a German painter and draftsman .

Life

Schätzler, whose favorite subjects in school were drawing and geometry , won competitions as a schoolboy. During the Second World War he served in Holland , France and Germany. His drawings, which he made during the war, were lost.

From 1946 to 1950 he attended painting and drawing schools and a graphic school in Munich. One of his teachers was Eugen Küchle . He earned his living by drawing movie posters during his studies . He was managing director of a wholesale and retail company for 14 years before focusing entirely on painting.

Schätzler painted around 3,000 pictures. Many of them were shown in group and solo exhibitions. The connection to his homeland, the Upper Palatinate , is primarily reflected in his landscapes . His works as part of the Art in Architecture program include, for example, wall designs in the town hall of Floß , work in the nursing home of the Heilpädagogisches Zentrum - Lebenshilfe für Behinderte eV (HPZ) in Irchenrieth and the fountain in Elly-Heuss-Gymnasium Weiden . To finance the Max Reger memorial organ for the Weiden parish church of St. Michael , he donated two of his paintings for auction.

Schätzler was a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (BBK) and the Oberpfälzer Kunstverein (OKV), and also served on the board of the OKV for several years. He also sat on the culture committee in his hometown. He had three children and died at the age of 85. He was buried in the city cemetery of his hometown.
