Hermann Strobach

Hermann Strobach (born March 1, 1925 in Groß Schönau ; † August 9, 2018 ) was a German German philologist and folklorist who made a name for himself in researching folk music .

After completing a commercial college from 1942 to 1943, Hermann Strobach did a savings bank apprenticeship and was then called up for military service. In 1945 he was released from Soviet captivity. In 1946 Strobach did a new teacher training and worked as a new teacher until 1948 . In 1948/49 he attended the technical college for economics and administration in Sebnitz and passed the Abitur there in 1949. He then began studying German, history and philosophy at the University of Leipzig . In 1954 he passed the state examination in German studies and was then editor at Volk und Wissen Verlag in Berlin until 1956 . Subsequently, Strobach became a research assistant at the Institute for German Folklore of the German Academy of Sciences , later the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . The doctorate took place in 1961 with Wolfgang Steinitz , Gerhard Scholz and Waltraut Woeller with a thesis on the subject of peasant complaints. Studies on the socially critical German folk song . In 1971 he became head of the feudalism department of the cultural history / folklore science department at the Central Institute for History of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. He remained in this position until his doctorate B on the subject of the history and theory of German folk poetry, especially folk songs. Studies in 1978. Reviewers were Helmut Bock , Ingeborg Spiewald and again Waltraud Woeller. He was also a lecturer at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1978 Strobach was appointed head of the cultural history / folklore science department. In September 1983 Strobach became professor at the academy, and in 1990 he retired.

Strobach had been a member of the editorial team and editor of the Yearbook for Folklore and Cultural History since 1961 .
