Hermann Tiemann

Hermann Tiemann (born July 9, 1899 in Bremen , † February 27, 1981 in Hamburg ) was a German Romance studies and librarian .

life and work

Tiemann graduated from high school in Bremerhaven in 1917 and studied Romance, English and German in Berlin (before military service) and Tübingen. In 1919 he became active in the student union Landsmannschaft Scotland . He received his doctorate in 1923 in Göttingen with studies in Spanish drama in Flanders (Diego Muxet de Solis, D. Jacinto de Herrera y Sotomayor, D. Miquel de Barrios) to obtain a Dr. phil. and became library councilor at the Hamburg State Library in 1928. In 1945 he completed his habilitation. From 1945 Tiemann was library director of the Hamburg State and University Library and professor for Romance philology at the university. Since 1947 he was co-founder and co-editor of the magazine Romanistisches Jahrbuch . He was also chairman of the Maximilian Society .
