Hermann Wendorf

Hermann Wendorf (born November 11, 1891 in Weißenburg ; † May 2, 1965 ) was a German historian .

Life

During his studies, Wendorf became a member of the Association of German Students in Leipzig . In 1915 the doctorate to Dr. phil. in history at the University of Leipzig with Erich Brandenburg with the work: The fraction of the center (Catholic fraction) in the Prussian House of Representatives from 1859 to 1867 . Because of a war injury, Wendorf was unable to continue his work and remained an assistant from 1921 to 1935. Only in 1928 did his habilitation for history at the University of Leipzig follow with the work: Martin Luther. Building his personality . From 1928 to 1939 he taught history at the University of Leipzig as a private lecturer. From 1939 to 1945 he was a non-scheduled adjunct professor of history there. From 1943 to 1945 he held the chair at the University of Jena . Wendorf joined the DNVP after the Reichstag election in March 1933 until it was banned in order to counteract the NSDAP . In November 1933, however, Wendorf signed the professors' commitment to Adolf Hitler at German universities and colleges and became a member of the NSDAP in 1940. After 1945 he worked without office as a Reformation historian and author for the NDB . He lived in Leipzig on Gletschersteinstrasse.
