Wolf von Hoyer (born February 14, 1806 in Dresden ; † December 30, 1873 there ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Wolf von Hoyer graduated from the University of Leipzig theology . In 1826 he became a member of the Corps Saxonia here . After his expulsion from the university, he went to Rome and learned there with Bertel Thorvaldsen the sculpture . In Rome he created numerous statues mainly based on motifs from Greek mythology , the majority of which were installed in Germany, for example in Dresden , Weimar and Müglitztal . A figure of the psyche created in 1842 influenced the Swiss sculptor Ferdinand Schlöth eight years later in the design of a figure that he created for the museum in Basel . Later he went to Weimar. He died in Dresden and found his final resting place in the family grave in Herzogswalde .
