Hermann Wulff

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Wulff (* around 1535 in Lemgo ; † 1599 ibid.) Was a master builder and mason from Lemgo.

Life

Wulff is one of the most important master builders of the so-called middle Weser Renaissance (1553–74). His earliest documented work is the town hall arbor in Lemgo , built in 1565 . During this time, probably between the ages of 25 and 30, he should have become a master. His most famous building is the witch mayor's house , which is also located in Lemgo , but on which his master's mark cannot be proven. Wulff is also not mentioned in the written sources. Contrary to earlier attributions, the art historian Otto Gaul also assigned the town houses Mittelstrasse 71 (previously: 40) in Horn and Mittelstrasse 64 in Lemgo to Wulff. Both buildings used to be thought of as works by Heinrich Overkotte . Hermann Wulff, who also worked as a sculptor, was several times for the sovereign, Count Simon VI. active to the lip. He built the castle barn in Varenholz and the north wing of Brake Castle and also supplied plans for the Falkenburg and Lippehof in Lemgo. The latter, however, was not carried out. His last building was the Oesterholz hunting lodge , also designed for the count , of which only small remains have survived.
